Out and About is a wonderful program that gives persons living with Dementia the opportunity to get outside and explore San Diego. We get lunch in town and then go do an activity. This program occurs every Friday from 11 am- 3 pm.
My experience volunteering with this program is very humbling and gives me a wonderful insight of what it's like being a care partner with an aging adult. Through this program I have got to meet the most entertaining people. There is DJ John- he always brings music for the bus ride around town. Always jamming out to the tunes. He has a variety of Genres for everyone to enjoy. He has traveled to so many places. I love hanging out with Kevin. We always joke about the foods he is not supposed to eat because he recently had his teeth pulled. He likes to listen to reggae music. If you have ever watched Tarzan 2 he reminds me of the zoogor but less grumpy. Anna loves to wander. You have to watch her and makes sure she doesn't take off. She tells the craziest stories with so much emotion. Over more time with this group I hope to learn more about others. Also I would like to identify all their stages of Dementia or types so I get a sense of their behavior.
